“You’re sitting in a universe made of circles. Each has its four directions, and you have your four directions. Find it. You already know it, or maybe you just don’t know how to touch base with that. But it’s like anything about loving the Earth, that means you got to get out there, and touch her, work with her, cultivate life force. Your four directions are to be found in yourself first, and then in concentric circles out. “ Katsi Cook.

Under Pressure
National Museum of Mexican Art
March 20 – August 2, 2026 Rubin & Paula Torres Gallery
Under Pressure marks the first solo exhibition by Ana Teresa Fernández in Chicago. Through video, installation, painting, and performance, Fernández invites us to confront a reality often silenced—the proximity of irreversible harm to our planet caused by human activity, as Earth’s natural rhythm of regeneration struggles to keep pace.

Borrando la Frontera
The Artist
Ana Teresa Fernández is an artist of fluencies. A student of linguistics, she speaks five languages. An artist of border erasure, she elevates the intersectionality of place, person, and politics to create a common human vernacular. Time-based actions and social gestures are her syntax.
