“Circulation”, a 24-foot artwork weighing over 6,000 pounds, was
manufactured out of aluminum. The striking sculpture highlights
the interconnectivity necessary for life to thrive and grow. Each
circle of the artwork is connected to another. The sculpture’s
round circles mimic both the roundabouts’ landscapes and the
opuntia prickly pear cactus which originated in Baja but is now
present throughout Napa. The neon-green lines evoke Napa’s
vineyards and are painted the same shade of green used in the
safety vests and equipment used by vineyard workers.
Honoring Diversity in California’s Wine Country
The artist intended that the energy of the piece reflect the
liveliness of the Napa Valley vineyard ecosystem. Napa exists
and thrives because work visas allow migrants to come from afar
and work the land. The lines of the piece evoke Napa’s bountiful
vines which host grapes from all over the world, like the diverse
vineyard workers from all walks of life who come together to work the land.
“The sculpture represents a welcoming invitation to
workers to be seen and become part of the Napa community as
well as a gateway for visitors to pass through as they enjoy all
Napa has to offer. ” – City of Napa
