The Cave

The Cave was commissioned by Campo Santo as an entrance installation to Richard Montoya’s play The River. The Cave is a contemporary interpretation of Plato’s Cave. It provides a reflective surface and truth in front of you, instead of “the shadow” that presents reality from the exterior or behind. Water and a river are mentioned throughout the play as a source of life and transcendence of culture and race, The Cave became a glacier-like adaptation where Joan Osato’s projections of sky and water flowed onto the surface and people’s meandering in front created the flow of reflections.
